CERTIFICATE OF CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN CORONIAL SERVICES: PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
A MESSAGE FROM THE SENIOR LEADERSHIP OF THE CENTRE FOR CONTEMPORARY CORONIAL LAW
It is with great pleasure that we bring to you the Professional Development Pathway for Coronial Services at the University of Bolton.
As we launch this vital and unique programme, we are addressing a pressing need within the sector: the standardisation of practices and the provision
of essential, high-quality training for coroners' officers and other professionals working within the coronial services.
The role of coroners’ officers is indispensable, demanding a broad combination of legal knowledge, investigative acumen, and compassionate interaction
with the bereaved. It is a career that is as multifaceted as it is challenging, and it requires a clear pathway for development.
The Centre for Contemporary Coronial Law, headed by Dr Alicia Danielsson, has been at the forefront of designing this programme of study. Our vision has
always been to create a structured career development pathway that primarily empowers coroners’ officers with the skills they need to excel in their roles.
This pathway, developed in close collaboration with key stakeholders such as the coroners’ officers and Staff Association (COASA), builds upon the lasting
vision of the late Debbie Large and Chris Hurst—two individuals whose dedication to this sector remains an inspiration to us all. Their legacy continues
through this CPD pathway, ensuring that coroners' officers are equipped to meet the evolving demands of their profession.
At the University of Bolton, we are keen to support and play a significant role in advancing the professional standards and practices within coronial services.
This professional development pathway is the first step to academic accreditation, providing you with the foundational knowledge and skills required for
effective practice. This course is more than just academic—it is an investment in the future of coronial services, offering the tools to enhance both personal
and professional growth.
As you embark on this pathway of study, know that you are joining a growing network of professionals committed to upholding the integrity of this essential
public service. The skills and qualifications you gain here will serve you throughout your career, enabling you to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others.
We look forward to supporting you every step of the way.
